An executive-development firm says its training program and software enables mortgage banking executives to test their management skills and be CEO for a day at a virtual mortgage company.

Prism Business Ware Games Inc. announced it recently upgraded the user-interface of Cycloan, a business simulation designed for mortgage bankers to develop mid- to senior-management's strategic, financial, and general business acumen.

The business-training software package "models the operations of a working, growing loan center and allows course attendees to run their simulated company as "CEO for the Day,'" providing a practice ground where managers can test new ideas and practice strategies in a "what if" environment, according to the announcement.

Cycloan's "more user-friendly," upgraded launch screen, a graphic representation of the chain of business functions within the simulated mortgage branch, allows participants to quickly navigate to all the elements of the simulated company's operations from one central location, Chicago-based PriSim said.

"That's critical because the focus of the course has got to be on the content, on the business decision-making, and not on navigating the software itself," PriSim partner David Semb said in the announcement. "The easier it is to get around within the simulated company, the more intuitive the interface, then the more knowledge and insight can come out of the experience."

Semb indicated the use of an instructor with a business simulation is a training trend PriSim is seeing within its client base.

"By using a business simulation that is part of an instructor-led course, you get the best of both worlds: the real-time, complex business results that the computer simulation gives you, plus the ability to ask the instructor or participants for more detail about a specific business concept, live at the very moment you have that question," Semb said. "We're gearing up to meet the increased demand that this trend will bring, and we're planning to make a lot of other exciting changes to PriSim's simulations in the coming year."
