The blackout that left millions of New Yorkers walking home in record heat Thursday was also responsible for knocking the Mortgage Bankers Association of America (MBA) offline.

The industry organization had communication problems late Thursday and all day Friday.

A systems administrator for the Washington, D.C.-based group said that their website communications ran through a hub in New York, which was knocked out along with the electricity in all five boroughs.

The website was back online late Sunday, however, daily subscription information which was to be delivered Friday will not go out, the administrator said. Monday, MBA should be up and running as usual, with subscriptions being delivered, he said.

The blackout affected all or parts of eight states as well as areas of Canada. Washington, D.C., where MBA is headquartered, was not directly affected with loss of electricity. Investigators are still attempting to determine the cause of the outage. As of late Sunday, had been restored to most areas, but several power plants remained shut down.
